DENNIS MURPHY

BIO

GRAMMY Nominated Multi Instrumentalist Dennis Murphy has been involved with the Smooth Jazz scene for over three decades. Dennis’s guitar, bass and vocal skills have earned him universal respect throughout the music industry as a first call for many diversified artists in the Smooth Jazz, Blues, R&B, Pop and Straight Ahead Jazz genres.

MUSIC

On his first album (Hit Me Hard), Dennis collaborated with Eric Marienthal, Jeff Golub, Will Kennedy and Tower of Power lead saxophonist Tom Politzer.

The latest Dennis Murphy album (Our Higher Selves) features Kirk Whalum, Gary Meek and Tom Politzer, along with drummer Marcus Finnie, Ruben Valtierra and John Stoddart on keyboards.

Dennis has played with artists including Acoustic Alchemy, Billy Preston, Eric Marienthal, Jeff Golub, Kenny Rankin, Greg Kihn, Maria Muldaur, Tony Lindsay, The Coasters, The Shirelles and The Drifters, to name a few. Dennis has always been an exciting and dynamic performer live, always inspiring audiences worldwide.

 

RADIO

Not only a performing artist but also a radio personality. In the early days of Smooth Jazz Radio, Dennis was also busy hosting a radio show called “Bass Trax with Dennis Murphy” with then Radio Pacific Program Director Sandy Shore (founder of SmoothJazz.com) serving as executive producer. It was, in fact, Sandy Shore who was instrumental in launching Dennis’s career into the genre now known as Smooth Jazz.
